Victorian Schoolroom Experience in the Abbey Gateway Meet a Victorian schoolteacher and re-learn the ‘3Rs’. A 45-minute experience for adults and children over 5 in our unique Victorian classroom, now in the brand new setting of the historic Abbey Gateway. Abbey Gateway Drop-in
Take a peek inside the newly restored medieval Abbey Gateway. Admire the recent conservation work undertaken as part of the Reading Abbey Revealed Project. For more information about our fully guided tours see page 48. Please note that the Gateway has no step free access and there are uneven steps and floors. All ages, 12.30pm – 2pm. Victorian Architecture in the Reading Abbey Quarter
New buildings continued to spring up within the Abbey Quarter long after the dissolution of Reading Abbey in 1539. This new specialist tour explores local works and the legacy of three eminent Victorian architects, Alfred Waterhouse, A. W. N. Pugin and George Gilbert-Scott.

Abbey Quarter Sculpture Walk
Love art? Curious about public sculpture? Join curator Elaine Blake for a walk through the Forbury and the Abbey Ruins which are full of sculptures, both ancient and modern. Not all of the works are complete; come and find out what the artists intended and why the sculptures are there.

Scrambling into Education: The Reading Way
Join our Jane Austen themed Abbey Gateway tour to find out about Jane’s only period of formal education which took place in the Gateway, at Reading Ladies Boarding School.
